The article mentions that such body language disturbs the focus of the viewer. Doesn’t this mean that such disruptive body language achieves some portion of its intended purpose? The ethos of the person performing such acts may be negatively affected by the act and the perceived opponent may have a strengthened ethos, but what about the information? What about the argument? Does Hagen and others like him succeed in disrupting and distracting from the intellectual discourse? If this is the case then such behavior can actually shift the focus from the issue to the person, making politics a popularity contest instead of intellectual deliberation.
