Studerer informasjonsvitskap ved SV på UiB, og det å kunne finne historiar i større datasett samt skaffe til veie nyttige data er noko som eg gjerne vil lære meir om. Flott at ei slik bok ligg gratis på nett!

When it comes to Liliana Bounegru’s chapter, I think she does a good job navigating the namings of this(e) trade(s).

I think all of the names used to define various technological approaches to journalism (Computer Assisted Reporting, Precision Journalism, data journalism, database journalism, computational journalism, etc) are unclear, overlapping each other, “endangered species” (do we picture journalist as purely writers of prose in the future?) and also somewhat unsuccessful (If any of these names and underlying practices really cough on broadly, I’d expect the name to disappear and the practice to fall in under “journalism” — what journalists do).

Still fascinating though!

Å si at Precision Journalism: A Reporter’s Introduction to Social Science Methods fra 70-tallet (siste utgave fra 2002) av guru Philip Meyer ikke er en datajournlistikkhåndbok er heller ikke helt lett. Selv om det meste som omhandler teknologi i denne boken er sørgelig utdatert på det praktiske, så er ideene og teoriene like relevante i dag.

Så; the Data Journalism Handbook er kanskje verdens første datajournalistikkbok. I alle fall kanskje den første som er skrevet i kollaborasjon av mange av verdens fremste praktikere på feltet.
